Tour itinerary

During your flight to Paro, you will have the opportunity to marvel at some of the world's highest peaks, including Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Jomolhari, Jichu Drakey, and Tserim Gang. Upon arrival in Paro, you will be greeted by our representative, who will accompany you throughout your stay in Bhutan.

After some refreshments, your visit will begin with the National Museum. This museum features beautiful displays that showcase the rich cultural and natural history of Bhutan, offering an excellent introduction to the country and its unique heritage.

Next, we will visit the Paro Rimpong Dzong. These structures, known as dzongs, are among the most distinct and important buildings in Bhutan, serving as the offices for district administration and residences for monks.

After exploring the dzong, we will hike down to the wooden bridge and enjoy some free time in the town. Overnight at the hotel 

Altitude: 2300m

After breakfast, you will start your journey towards Punakha with a stop at Tachhogang. Here, you can walk across the suspension bridge and hike to the temple on the hilltop. The journey will include a stop at Dochula Pass, located at 3,150 meters. The pass is adorned with 108 Druk Wangyel Chortens, traditional Bhutanese stupas symbolizing the mind of Buddha. You will have the opportunity to take stunning pictures of the Himalayan range and the surrounding valleys from the pass.

As we descend from the pass, you will notice a dramatic change in vegetation, from alpine forests to subtropical forests. This transition is one of the many fascinating natural features of Bhutan, which boasts a wide range of biodiversity.

Upon arrival in Punakha, we will visit the Punakha Dzong, also known as the Palace of Great Happiness. It is considered one of the most beautiful dzongs in Bhutan, located at the confluence of two rivers, the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu. The dzong served as the capital of Bhutan until 1955 and remains the winter residence of the Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot) and the central monastic body.

Next, we will hike to the Khamsum Yuley Namgyel temple, situated on a hill above Punakha Valley. We will also visit the Chhimi Lhakhang temple in Lobesa, dedicated to the divine madman Drukpa Kunley, known for his unorthodox teachings and unconventional methods. The temple is a popular pilgrimage site, and couples visit to receive blessings for fertility.

Altitude: 1200m, Drive: 3hrs, Distance: 140km

On the way to Gangtey and Phobjikha, visit Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, which has been rebuilt to its original grandeur after the fire in 2012. After Wangdue, the road winds through deep valleys and remote villages, passing through Nobding village and towards the Black Mountain ranges. Before reaching Pele La Pass, we will drive towards Lawo La (3,420 meters) and then descend towards Gangtey village and the Gangtey Gompa Monastery. Built in the 17th century, Gangtey Monastery is considered the largest Nyingma school in western Bhutan.

After exploring Gangtey Gompa, embark on a hike to the glacial valley of Phobjikha, located at an altitude of 2,900 meters. The Phobjikha Valley is a natural wonder, renowned for its breathtaking beauty and tranquil surroundings. It is also home to the rare Black-necked Cranes, which migrate to this valley during the winter months. Overnight at the hotel 

Altitude: 2900m, Drive: 2hrs, Distance: 80km

In the morning, take a short hike to Kilkhorthang village and interact with the locals. After the visit, we will drive back the same way to Thimphu. You can make several stops along the way for pictures and to visit places you might have missed on the way to Phobjikha. In Wangdue, you can take a short hike to Rinchengang village, considered one of the oldest villages in Bhutan. Continue towards Thimphu, crossing Dochula Pass. Once in Thimphu, check into the hotel and explore the town at your leisure. Overnight at the hotel 

Altitude: 2300m, Drive: 4hrs, Distance: 160km

After breakfast, you'll embark on a short hike to Wangditse Monastery, which offers stunning views overlooking Thimphu city. On the way back, you'll visit the zoo to see the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal. You'll also stop by the Buddha Dordenma Statue, which majestically overlooks the entire town. Additional highlights include a visit to the Memorial Chorten, built in honor of the 3rd King, and the Archery Ground, where you can witness Bhutan's national sport.

Next, explore the weekend market, where local farmers sell their vegetables and other products. In the evening, visit Trashichho Dzong, the summer residence of the central monastic body. End your day with a leisurely walk around the craft market. Overnight at the hotel

Altitude: 2300m, Drive: 40, Distance: 30km

Departing from Thimphu, you will head towards the stunning high valley of Haa, a region that was only opened to tourism in 2002 and remains one of the least populated areas of Bhutan. Off the beaten path and seldom visited by tourists, local life here is still guided by the seasons and agriculture, offering an authentic and immersive experience.

The road winds through deep valleys, offering breathtaking views as you begin a long ascent along the Haa Chu, passing through numerous traditional hamlets. A stop is planned along the way to admire Dobji Dzong, a small fortress overlooking the deep valley.

Upon arrival in Haa, you will have the opportunity to visit Lhakhang Karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo, two ancient and iconic temples of the valley. In the evening, a stroll through the charming village of Ha Katso is on the agenda, before ending the day with an exploration of the town itself. Overnight hotel 

Altitude: 2500m, Drive: 3hrs, Distance: 130km

You will continue your journey towards the Chele La Pass, located at an altitude of 3,988 meters, and stop briefly at the pass to enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding snow-capped peaks before descending into the valley. You can take a short hike towards the Kila Gompa nunnery located at 3000m. There are about 30 nuns living in the nunnery. You can explore the nuns' temple and learn more about their monastic life before continuing your drive to the small village of Dzongdrakha. This village overlooks the Paro Valley and rice fields, offering an exceptional panoramic view.

In the evening, you can enjoy a short stroll around town before settling in for the night at your hotel.

Altitude: 2300m, Drive: 2hrs, Distance: 78km

Trekking to the revered Taktsang Monastery is a must-do activity for all visitors to Bhutan. This ancient monastery, founded by Guru Rinpoche, clings dramatically to a cliffside, offering breathtaking views of the Paro Valley. The ascent takes about four hours and passes through a stunning landscape of waterfalls, meditation caves, prayer wheels, and colorful flags—perfect for photography.

After exploring the temple complex, enjoy lunch at a teahouse while taking in the magnificent scenery. The hike back down to the valley takes around 45 minutes, providing further opportunities to appreciate the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Later in the day, visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse and experience a hot stone bath, a unique and traditional way of relaxing in Bhutan. Locals believe that the hot stone bath has therapeutic benefits and can cure various ailments. You can also taste the local alcohol, "Ara," during a typical Bhutanese dinner.
